ON MARCH 5TH, the Agassiz Cooperative Preschool community joined together for an evening of fun, food and fundraising to benefit our new home on the corner of Spring and Summer Streets. The Agassiz Preschool Gala Auction was a Mardi Gras themed extravaganza, hosted by local comedian Jimmy Tingle.

Agassiz’ permanent home, only a few blocks from our previous home of nearly 40 years in Porter Square, Cambridge, was purchased and renovated with an extensive budget raised by current and past families, fiends, neighbors and business leaders.

To raise the additional funds needed to complete the school, we held the Agassiz Preschool Gala Auction on March 5th, 2011. Our goal was to raise the $40,000 needed to pay off our bridge loaned. AND WE DID IT!!!

Our greatest thanks go to Kathy Hart, Sarah Saxe, Heather Thompson-Brenner, and Gillien Todd for producing and managing such a rainmaker. Their leadership, passion and dedication was truly the driving force behind our success.

We at Agassiz give thanks for all our benefactors. In truth Agassiz is a family today and beyond – from our current children to the nearly 40 years of alumni. Thank you for helping Agassiz continue to be a place where kids can fully be themselves while learning and having fun.

Gala Auction Benefit

Indulge yourself Mardi Gras-style with fabulous food and drinks and all sorts of items to bid on for yourself, family and friends.

We are having a big party to celebrate the events of the past few years. There will be lots of great items for the silent and live auctions, and delicious Mardi-Gras themed food and drink. And, of course, all your friends from Agassiz! This is a grownup party, so call your babysitters. Casual cocktail attire.

Please consider either making a donation to the auction or purchasing tickets to the Auction. Our goal is to raise $65,000 by April 1st. Proceeds from this event will fund a capital campaign for the completion of our new school.

CDs and T-shirts!

If you are looking for some fun kid’s music that will liven your car drives with the tots and benefit our school at the same time, come by Agassiz to purchase an Agassiz T-shirt or our CD release, “Working on a Building.” All proceeds will go towards our new building.

Christmas Wreath and Tree Sale

Agassiz Preschool is holding its annual tree and wreath sale starting December 3rd. Parents and teachers volunteer their time to participate in the sale, and will be on hand to help you pick out the perfect tree or wreath for your home. It’s a great fundraiser for our school and we’d love the support!

CD of Children’s Songs

Coming soon— musical styling from our talented families, alumni, and friends!

Thanks to Andrew Mazzone (Tessa’s dad, MG) and the amazing facilities at the recording studio HI-N-DRY at the Armory Building in Somerville, we have been recording a CD of children’s music! It has been another fantastic community project, and incidentally some wonderful music has been written and recorded. (Kids from Agassiz are needed for several tracks, so let Tracey or Andrew know if you think your child is musical and/or gregarious!)

Andrew conceived the idea as a tie-in fundraiser associated with the annual Agassiz Concert, which will take place in early June. The CD will include songs and stories from members of the community, and the concert will feature performances by some of the artists.

The CD will be on sale at the concert and available on the website around the same time. Andrew has also decided to open up the concert to families in the neighborhood around the Armory, the arts complex just blocks from the New Agassiz Building. We hope to have a festival-type atmosphere, with activities for kids in the building as well as music on the main stage. Please let Andrew know if you are willing to help with the planning and outreach!
