Construction Update
Greetings gentle readers,
It was busy last week at Summer Street, despite the inclement weather. Anyone driving by will have noticed a chain link fence that used to surround a hole in the ground, but now surrounds a foundation! This is the concrete for the bottom of the new stair tower, which will rise up all three stories to meet the new roof that the framers constructed two weeks ago. Once the concrete is cured, the walls & floors will start going up, and the final outside form of the building will finally have taken shape – save a porch or two.
Meanwhile, inside the framers have nearly finished laying out the partition walls for the restrooms, stair enclosure, etc – so the interior space is getting easier and easier to visualize. Once the stair tower is constructed, we will be able to “button up” the outside and begin working on the interior – insulation, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, etc. With temporary heat installed and a more-or-less airtight exterior, it will be easier to begin organizing work days again after the new year – so be on the lookout for announcements. And thanks to the few parents who braved 25 degree weather and an unheated building to help clean up the yard and do some work on the floors last weekend!
I’ll probably post again some time before the New Year. In the meantime, happy holidays….
JS
