Since the Goodwill in Davis Square is no longer accepting/selling toys, here's a good outlet for your old kid stuff:
"Even at a used-clothing outlet, the cost of clothing a family of four can be devastating for transitioning families. And the vast majority of homeless families are single-parent families — primarily mothers with small or grade-school children.
At the Children's Clothing Exchange, they trade for what they need — an eight-year old's winter coat for a ten-year old's summer outfit. Good quality for good quality. We take toys, too. If you don't have good clothes, you can trade your time, volunteering. Shopping at the Children's Clothing Exchange
Some are surprised that our barter system works with transitioning people at all. But we're never surprised at how much a person who's had so little is willing to give back. It's simple: the participants fill each other's needs, year after year.

The Decordova Museum and Sculpture Park in Lincoln is a great favorite with children. The youngsters dart through the 35 acres of green and woodlands, dotted with contemporary American art sculptures, always excited to see the next surprise. Many of the sculptures are interactive, and almost all of them are sturdy, allowing children to enjoy the art without constant parental repression. The museum also has several child-friendly activities inside, and we enjoy browsing through their museum shop which has many unusual and clever items.
Picnicking is allowed on the green and shaded picnic lawn, though because of the large and hungry yellowjacket population, it's wise to avoid perfumes, bring mesh covers for your food, or set out a decoy plate of food to lure the pests away from your family (an open jar of vinegar will also repel hornets and yellowjackets.)
For kids over 6, check out their Eye Wonder family programs!
Every June, the DeCordova also celebrates its Annual Art in the Park Festival and Art Sale-- "a unique family event that combines performances, art activities, food concessions, and the area's largest outdoor art exhibition and sale featuring over 100 of New England’s finest artists and artisans. This is a day not to be missed!" We've gone in the past and enjoyed ourselves.

Pond swimming is easy for small children because the water is tepid and sweet (if sometimes faintly redolent of baby pee-pee in popular swimming areas), and there are few waves and no jellyfish.
Walden Pond State Reservation is open year-round for day use only. The daily parking fee is $5.00 per vehicle. Parking is only permitted in the main lot across from the pond. Hours vary though out the season. Visitors are welcome to swim, hike, fish, use canoes and boats (electric motors only), cross-country ski, snowshoe. Visitors are also welcome to picnic, however; picnic tables and pavilion facilities are not available.
In an effort to balance public recreation with protection of our resources, the Department of Conservation and Recreation has established a ‘people capacity’ of 1000 visitors at the park to ensure a positive visitor experience and to maintain the integrity of the resources. To avoid disappointment, please call ahead to receive an update on current visitor capacity status. There are no trash barrels on the beach. Please carry out what you carry in.
The following are prohibited:
* Dogs/pets * Fires/grills * Camping * Bikes on trails * Alcoholic beverages * Gasoline engines * Wind powered sail craft * Hunting * Metal detectors * Novelty inflation devices * Parking on the streets
